Artist: Shawn Colvin

Shawn Colvin used to be one of those people that only I had heard of. (Well, not only I, but someone would ask what I was playing and I'd say "Shawn Colvin" and they'd say, "Who???" You get the idea.) But, happily for her, a song from her new CD A Few Small Repairs has given her a hit. The song is "Sunny Came Home", which is an awesome song that I loved instantly, as did all my friends. I was pleasantly shocked to hear it over a P.A. in the mall a few weeks after I got the CD. Yay for Shawn! But even if she doesn't remain a huge hit on mainstream radio, she has a solid fan base of people who have known who she is and won't forget when the Next Big Thing comes along.

My favorite Shawn Colvin CD is Cover Girl, which is a CD full of her covers of other people's songs. This is not to say that I don't like her songwriting, but sometimes, in my opinion, she has a tendency to over-produce. For that reason, I like her live tracks best, and those where she has kept it simple, and nearly every track on Cover Girl fits that bill.

The official website is pretty informative.
